Day time running light are a relatively new feature in most cars. The DRL is the light at the front of the vehicle that stays on as long as the engine is running. Unlike headlights, day time running lights are rather dim and do not illuminate the road ahead.
The main purpose of day time running lights is to improve visibility and safety for you, your passengers and others on the road. Although visibility is good during the day when the sun is high, this is not always the case and the hours after sunrise and before sunset are the most dangerous. Day time running lights simply make it easier for others to see your vehicle when the Sun may partially block your view.
Depending on your brand and model, your day time running lights can come in many different forms. They can include: your parking lights, headlights and LED lights around your taillights

Day time running lights are as easy to use as you'd like them to be. They are designed to be turned on when your engine starts and off when you turn it off. You don't have to manually turn them on and off. Please note that day time running lights should not be confused with automatic headlights, which turn themselves on when the light level drops to a certain point.
