The redesigned NX doesn't look like the creased sheet metal of its predecessor. The NX once again presents the world with a taut face, its double-angled grille and a pair of hooked headlights.
The interior is slightly more spacious than before, although small windows have eroded this impression. Typical of the Lexus, all internal contact points, starting with the steering wheel leather, all have a high-quality feel. When it comes to contact points, both the outer and inner door handles are electronic and will pop up with a touch; if a vehicle or cyclist approaches from that side, the inner handle will automatically be disabled.
The new NX has a touch screen, and a large 14.0-inch screen looks great. Apple Music and Amazon Music are integrated into the system. Wireless smartphone charging is an option, paired with a digital key function. In general, the interface will benefit from more physical controls than just a tiny volume knob and two knobs for cabin temperature.
The big news of this generation is the new plug-in hybrid powertrain, which adds a naturally aspirated base engine, a turbocharged advanced engine and a conventional hybrid system. An 18.1-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery provides power to the motor. According to the EPA, the large batteries provide 37 miles of EV range.
