Installing new fog lights on your vehicle can greatly improve your visibility in inclement weather conditions. Most kits come with detailed instructions on how to install them and are designed for people with little or no wiring experience. Installing fog lights will vary from model to model.
Check your local laws. Certain areas have restrictions on the type and color of lights you can install. Check your local regulations to make sure your new lights are up to code. Not all fog lamps are approved by the Ministry of Transport for use on roads.
Select Your light bulb type. There are three main types of bulbs that can be used for fog lamps. Select the style you think is most useful. Leds are very bright and have a long life. They also use less energy and are less likely to vibrate. The disadvantage is their cost, as they are much more expensive than halogen. Hid Uses xenon to produce large amounts of bright light. Hid is very popular because it produces light that is closer to daylight. Halogen lamps are the oldest, but also the most widely available and cheapest. It is made of a single filament bulb and halogen gas. These lights are usually very hot and burn out easily.
Make sure your vehicle is parked and switched off during installation. Try to place it on as level a surface as possible to engage the parking brake. Disconnect the fog lamp switch from the housing. This will disconnect the fog lamp from the vehicle’s power system, which should be disconnected by detaching the clip. Remove Washer, bolt and nut. This will allow you to remove the fog lamp casing. Be sure to hold all parts until the installation is complete. Remove the casing. Be careful not to scratch the bumper.
If you are installing grills or roof lights, step away from the vehicle and make sure you don’t scratch the roof or body. Insert a new fog lamp and make sure the bolt holes are aligned. Insert Bolt. Tighten Washer and nut to bolts with ratchet or wrench. Do not screw too tightly or you may damage the fog lamp or the vehicle. The housing shall be snug and immovable. Reconnect the switch and use the clip to reconnect the fog light switch. The new fog lights should now be properly powered by the vehicle’s battery. Start the ignition, test your New Light, and make sure the angle is good for visibility and doesn’t flash in other drivers’eyes.
